Alumina Hydrate The preferred source of alumina in glazes to increase hardness and stability. Also aids against crazing.
Size:
Quantity:
Alumina Oxide, Calcined Insoluble in water. Used in glazes for mattness and brighter colours, too much can give a dry underfired look.
Size:
Quantity:
Antimony Oxide Functions as an opacifier and colouring agent to give yellows when used with lead. Used up to cone 1.
Size:
Quantity:
Barium Carbonate Used as a flux and assists in producing matt finishes in glazes. Also used to neutralize sulfates in clay bodies.
Size:
Quantity:
Bentonite A very plastic magnesium clay containing colloidal matter which, in small amounts lends plasticity to a clay body. It is never used alone due to its high shrinkage rate. Used as a suspending agent in glazes.
Size:
Quantity:
Bone Ash Used in bone china to give translucency and lower maturing temperature. Also used to give texture to low fire glazes.
Size:
Quantity:
Borax, Granular A soluble low temperature flux which lowers the fusion point of glazes and promotes a smooth melt. Produces bright colours with oxides. A good source of sodium and boric oxide in glazes.
Size:
Quantity:
Burnt Umber A calcined hydrated iron oxide colourant with manganese. Added to clay bodies to give darker colour.
Size:
Quantity:
C.M.C. Powder, Gum Arabic An organic cellulose gum which functions as a thickener, binder, and suspending agent.
Size:
Quantity:
Chrome Oxide Extremely potent colorant. Used up to three percent to yield shades of greens in glazes. Combine with lead to give reds and oranges, with zinc oxide to give browns, and with tin oxide to give pinks.
Size:
Quantity:
Cobalt Carbonate A pink powder that is a very strong colorant used to give various shades of blue colour to glazes.
Size:
Quantity:
Cobalt Oxide Dark black in dry form. Consistently fires to give strong blue tones in glazes.
Size:
Quantity:
Copper Carbonate A light green powder used as a colorant in glazes. Depending on conditions and glaze composition, it may produce green, blue-green, or red.
Size:
Quantity:
Copper Oxide, Black Black in dry form. A stronger form of copper than copper carbonate. Yields the same colours as copper carbonate.
Size:
Quantity:
Copper Oxide, Red Red in dry form, it is the strongest form of copper. Used virtually the same as copper oxide black.
Size:
Quantity:
Copper Sulfate A water-soluble powder, sometimes used in white clay bodies and glazes to create a 'whiter' appearance as a result of imparting a bluish tint.
Size:
Quantity:
Cornwall Stone A type of feldspar high in calcium and silica.
Size:
Quantity:
Dolomite A useful source of calcium and magnesium. It can be used as a high temperature flux and also to promote crystallizing.
Size:
Quantity:
Erbium Oxide A pink colourant used in the manufacture of crystal glass and ceramic glazes. Used in glaze as a pure oxide versus stain, excellent transparency and translucency can be achieved.
Size:
Quantity:
Feldspar, Custer A potash feldspar used in glazes and clay bodies. Low in soda and high potash content.
